आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

दह्यमाना  सुतीव्रेण  नीचाः परयशोSग्निना  |
अशक्तास्तत्पदं  गन्तुं  ततो  निन्दां  प्रकुर्वते ||
                                  - चाणक्य नीति (९/१४ )

भावार्थ -  नीच प्रवृत्ति के व्यक्ति  किसी अन्य व्यक्ति की 
किसी उच्च पद पर नियुक्ति के कारण प्राप्त यश रूपी अग्नि
में ईर्ष्यावश बडी तीव्रता से जलने लगते हैं , परन्तु यदि वे भी
वैसा ही उच्च पद प्राप्त करने में असमर्थ हो जाते हैं  तो फिर
वे उस व्यक्ति की निन्दा करने  लगते हैं  |

(उच्चपदस्थ व्यक्तियों को जिस प्रकार उन पदों के आकांक्षी
अन्य व्यक्तियों की ईर्ष्या और द्वेष् का सामना करना पडता
है उस का  वर्णन इस सुभाषित में किया गया है |)

Dahyamaanaa suteevrena  neechaah  parayashgninaa.
Ashaktaastatpadam  gantum  tato  nindaam  prakurvate.

Dahyamaanaah = in flames.      Suteevrena = fiercely.
Neechaah =mean and vile persons.   Parayashaagninaa=
para+ yasha + agninaa.    Para = other persons.  Yasha =
fame.    Agninaa = fire of.    Ashaktaah + tat + padam.
Ashaktaah = incapable of.    Tat = that.   Padam = post,
position.   Gantum = go, achieve.   Tato = therefore.
Nindaam = defamation, reproach.   Prakurvate = does.

i.e.   Mean and vile persons are envious of the fame of a
person occupying a high position and burn themselves in
fire of  envy.  If they are incapable of achieving a similar
high position themselves,  they then start criticizing  and
defaming that person.
