ऋणदाता च दैवज्ञः श्रोत्रियः सुजला नदी |
यत्र ह्यते न विद्यन्ते न तत्र दिवसं वसेत् ||
अर्थ - जिस स्थान में ऋण दाता (साहूकार ) , ज्योतिषी (भविष्यवक्ता) , वेद शास्त्रों में निपुण विद्वान् ब्राह्मण, स्वच्छ जल से परिपूर्ण नदी , ये सभी विद्यमान नहीं हों , ऐसे स्थान में एक दिन के लिये भी निवास नहीं करना चाहिये |
(प्रकारान्त से इस सुभाषित द्वारा एक सफल अर्थव्यवस्था की मूलभूत आवश्यकताओं वाणिज्य,शिक्षा, धर्म तथा स्वच्छ जल की आपूर्ति को रेखांकित किया है )
Rinadaataa cha daivagyah hrotriyah sujalaa nadee.

Rinadaataa = a money lender. Cha = and . Daivagyah = an astrologer. Shrotriya = a brahmin well versed in vedas. Sujalaa = having good potable water. Nadee = a river. Yatgra = where.
Hyetey = hi + aite. Hi = surely. Aite = these. Na = not Vidyante = exist. Tatra = there.
Divasam = a day. Vaset = live.
i.e. One should not live in a place even for a day where there are no money lenders, astrologers, persons well versed in Vedas and Shastraas, and a perennial river always full of good potable water.
(Through this Subhashita the author has indirectly underlined some of the prerequisites of a thriving economy i.e. commerce, education, religion and availability of potable water .)
