.Aho bhavati saadrushyam mrudangasya khalasya cha.
Yaavan-mukhagatau tau hi taavan-madhura-bhaashinau
Aho = Oh ! Bhavati = becomes, happens. Saadrushyam = similarity. Mrudang = a musical instrument (drum) of Indian music having a hollow wooden barrel with sheaths of leather mounted on both
sides. Khalasya = a wicked person's. Cha = and. Yaavanmukhagato = yaavat +mukhagato.
Yaavat = so long as. Mukhagato = being in the mouth or face. Sau = they. Hi = surely.
Taavanmadhurabhaashinau = taavat + madhurabhaashinau. Taavat = till that time. Madhura-= sweet.
Bhaashinau = speaking.
i.e. Oh ! what a similarity is there between the behaviour of a 'Mrudanga' and wicked persons.
Both of them speak sweetly till that time they are well treated and pampered by offering sweets etc.
(Before playing a 'mrudang' a thick paste of kneaded wheat flour is put over the stretched leather sheath on one of its side for getting a sound suitable for accompanying a musician. If this is not done then the 'Mrugang produces harsh sound unfit for music. Similarly wicked persons also behave properly only until such time they are pampered .)
