Today's Subhashita.

Akartavyam na kartavyam praanaih kanthagatairapi,
Kartavyameva kartavyam praanaih kanthagatairapi.

Akartavyam = an improper or criminal act, any thing that ought not to be done,   Na = not
Kartavyam =  done as a duty.    Praanaih = breathing.      Kanthagatairapi = kanthagataih + api.
Kanthagata =  reaching the throat.    Praana kanthagat =  about to breath his last breath i,e,. about to die.         Api = even      Kartavyameva  = kartavyam +aiva.     Aiva = really,  already.
(The prefix 'a' before a word gives just the opposite meaning to that word, just like the prefix 'in' or 'un' in English .   So 'akartavya' is just the opposite of 'kartavta' .

i.e.       One should not do improper or criminal acts  even if he faces a threat to his life. On the other hand one should perform his duty even at the cost of his life.
