अनभ्यासैर्हता विद्या नित्यहासैर्हता स्त्रियः |
कुबीजेन हतं क्षेत्रं भृत्यदोषैर्हता नृपाः ||
अर्थ - निरन्तर अभ्यास न करने से विद्या का ह्रास हो जाताहै (उस पर व्यक्ति का पूर्ण अधिकार नहीं रहता है ) और नित्य निरर्थक हंसी मजाक करने से स्त्रियों को हानि पहुंचती है, अगर बीज अच्छा न हो तो खेत में फसल नष्ट हो जाती है, और राजा (शासकों ) का नाश उसके सेवकों (अधीनस्थ अधिकारियों ) के दोषपूर्ण व्यवहार के कारण हो जाता है
Anabhyaasairhat = Anabhyaaseh + hataa. Anabhyaas =not regularly recapitulating and updating any discipline of learning. Hataa = killed, destroyed. Vidyaa = various disciplines of learning.
Nityahaasairhataa = nitya +haasaih+ hataa. Nitya = every day. Haasa = laughter, making fun.
Striyah = women. Kubeejena = bad seeds. ('ku' is a prefix like 'mal' in English,which means bad),
Kshetram = agricultural farm. Bhrutyadoshairhataa = Bhrutya+doshaih +hataa. Bhrutya = servants, subordinate officials) Doshaih = various shortcomings and defects. Nrupaah = kings, rulers.
i.e. Command over any discipline of learning is lost if it is not regularly recapitulated and practised, indulging daily in unnecessary ridicule and laughter is harmful to the ladies, bad seeds sown in an agricultural farm results in loss of the crop, and ignoring the defects and shortcomings of attendants and subordinate officials by the king (or rulers) results in loss of the kingdom or even the death of the king.
