Today's Subhashita.

अस्ति पुत्रो वशे यस्य भृत्यो भार्या तथैव च  |
अभावे सति संतोषः स्वर्गस्थोSसौ महीतले  ||   - महासुभषितसंग्रह (3845)

अर्थ -    जिस व्यक्ति का पुत्र आज्ञाकारी हो तथा उसके नौकर और स्त्री भी
उसके वश में होते हैं , और यदि वह् सुख सुविधाओं के अभाव में भी संतोषी
बना रहता है उसके लिये यही  पृथ्वी  स्वर्ग के समान (सुखमय ) है |

(इस सुभाषित द्वारा  यह  तथ्य प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि भौतिक सुविधाओं
से भी बढ कर सुखमय पारिवारिक जीवन व्यतीत करने के लिये मनुष्य का संतोषी
होना तथा परिवार के सदस्यों का आज्ञाकारी  होना अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है  | )

Asti putro vashe yasya bhrutyo bhaaryaa tathaivs cha.
Abhaave sati santoshah svargasthosau  maheetale.

Asti =  is.      Putro - son.     Vashe = obedient, under control    Yasya = whose.
Bhrutyo =  servant.     Bhaaryaa = wife.     Tathaiva = similarly.     Cha = and.
Abhave = absence, scarcity.    Santoshah = satisfaction,    Svargasthosau =
Svargastho + asau.      Svargastho = situated in heaven.    Asau = this.
Maheetale = on this Earth.

i.e.    For a person who has an obedient son and his wife and servants are also
like that,  and he is always satisfied over his lot,  then even in absence of many
facilities ,for him living in this  Earth is akin to living in the comforts of Heaven.

(In this Subhashita the author has emphasised that  for leading a peaceful and
comfortable family life , having control over desires and obedient family members
and servants is more important than being  affluent.)
