आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

एकवापीभवं  तोयं   पात्रापात्र  विशेषतः |
आम्रे मधुरतामेति  निम्बे कटुकतामपि  || -  महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -         एक ही तालाब  का जल , विशेषतः योग्य  तथा
अयोग्य प्राप्तिकर्ताओं  के द्वारा प्रयुक्त हो  कर ,अलग अलग
परिणाम देता है | उदाहरणा स्वरूप आम्  के वृक्ष को सिंचित
करने  से उसके फलों में मिठास उत्पन्न होती है  परन्तु  नीम
के वृक्ष में कटुकता ही उत्पन्न होती है  |

(आम्र तथा नीम  के वृक्षों की उपमा प्रयुक्त  कर इस सुभाषित में
यह्  तथ्य प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि एक ही साधन का  सज्जन
व्यक्ति सदुपयोग करते हैं और दुर्जन दुरुपयोग करते हैं और उसके
परिणाम भी तदनुसार अच्छे और बुरे होते हैं |)

Ekavaapeebhavam toyam paatraapaatra visheshatah.
Aamre maadhurataameti nimbe katukataamapi.

Eka = one.   Vaapee - a pond.    Bhavam = coming into
existence.     Toyam = water.     Paatraapaatra = paatra +
apaatra.      Paatra = capable or competent recipient.  
Apaatra = unfit recipient.    Visheshatah = especially.
Amre = mango tree,    Madhurataameti = madhurataam +
eti.     Madhurataam = sweetness.    Eti = arrives,brings.
Nimbe = Neem tree.    Katukataam +api.  Katukataaam=
bitter taste,    Api = even.

i.e.     Water from the same pond used for irrigation purposes
 produces different results depending upon the  competence
or incompetence of the recipients, e.g while the Mango tree
produces sweet fruits, all  the products of Neem tree  are
bitter in taste.

(In this subhashita the simile of Mango and  Neem trees has
been used to emphasize that competent persons put to good
use the resources available to them and the same resources are
misused by incompetent persons producing bad results.)
