Today's Subhashita.

Eka bhuktam sadaarogyam dvobhuktam balavardhanam.
Tribhuktervyaadhipeeda syaaccaturbhuktermrutidhruvam.

Eka = one, once.   Bhuktam = eating food.  Sadaarogyam=
sada + aarogyam .   Sadaa = always.    Aarogyam = good
heaalth.      Dvibhuktam = eating twice a day.       Bala =.
strength.   Vardhanam = increase in.   Tribhukteh = eating
thrice a day.  Vyaadhi = diseases.   Peedaa = pain.  Syaat =
perchance.    Chaturbhukte = eating four times a day.
Mruti = death.   Dhruvam = certain.

i.e.      By eating food only once in a day keeps a person
always healthy, and eating twice a day  results in increasing
his strength.  However, if he eats three times a day then he
suffers from various diseases and pain. And if perchance
he takes his meals four times a day then  his untimely death
is certain.

(The ill effects of untimely overeating have been beautifully
described in this Subhashita to discourage people in doing so.)

  1. If you eat so many times then your secretion of insulin goes manifold which in turn results in insulin resistance. And this insulin resistance is the main cause of obesity, type 2 diabetes , hypertension etc. But to my surprise as a doctor this subhashit proves this insulin resistance very effectively. By advocating this theory I was able to reduce the weight of so many persons in my medical practice and made them free from hypertension and diabetes. I bow to the great sage who wrote this subhash it.
