आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

एतदेव हि पाण्डित्यं एषा चैव कुलीनता  |
एष  एव  परो  धर्मः आयादूनतरो  व्ययः || - महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -         आय की तुलना में व्यय कम करना निश्चय ही
एक विद्वत्ता पूर्ण  कार्य है  और यही व्यक्ति की  कुलीनता का
भी परिचायक है तथा यही एक धार्मिक सदाचरण भी है |

(अर्थशास्त्र में एक उक्ति प्रसिद्ध है कि यदि आप की आय व्यय
से अधिक हो तो यह  व्यक्ति की  समृद्धि की निशानी है, और यदि
आय और व्यय बराबर हो तो यह स्थिति भविष्य में संकट आने
का संकेत  है | और यदि व्यय आय से अधिक होता है तो  व्यक्ति
विनाश के कगार पर होता है |  इसी भावना को  इस  सुभाषित में
प्रभावी रूप से  व्यक्त किया गया है |)

Etadeva hi paandityam esha chaiva kuleenataa.
Esha eva paro dharmah aayaadoonataro vyayah.

Etadeva = Etat + iva.    Etaat = this    Iva = like , as.
Hi = surely.       Pandityam = scholarship, erudition.
Eshaa = this.     Chaiva = cha + iva.     Cha =  and.
Kuleenataa = a family's  resspectability.       Paro =
another,                     Dharmah = religious austerity.
aayaadoonataro + aayaat + oonataro.       Aayaat  =
in comparison to the income.    Oonataro = less than
Vyayah = expenditure.

i.e.   To  keep in check the expenditure lesser than the
income  is a scholarly act on the part of a person and
as also a symbol  of his respectability.  It is also another
form of religious austerity.

(There is saying in Economics that if one's expenditure
is lesser than his income, it is a state of bliss. However,
if his income is just equal  to his expenditure he is on
the verge of facing a disaster art any time, and  if his
expenditure is more than his income he is already in
deep trouble.  This dictum has been beautifully stated
in the above Subhasita.)
